Priyanka Chopra never expected her relationship with pop star Nick Jonas, whom she married last year, to go so harmoniously.
“I didn’t think that this would be what it turned out to be, and that’s maybe my fault,” Chopra admitted during a talk at the Women in the World Summit on Thursday. “I judged a book by its cover.”
Chopra, 36, said the “Sucker” singer, 26, surprised her “so much” when they first started dating.
“He’s such an old soul, extremely smart, so good for me because he grounds me so much,” she said. “I’m a wild child. I do whatever I want whenever I want and he always supports me.”
She therefore gave the pop star the nickname “Old Man Jonas.”
Jonas and the “Quantico” star were first romantically linked in 2017, but she denied the rumors at the time. But speculation persisted, and the duo got engaged last July before tying the knot in December.
During her seminar Thursday, Chopra recalled a time early in their relationship that she had a meeting that would cut her plans short with Jonas and others, so she started dropping hints that she wanted him to ask her to cancel.
But he never did ― and instead told her that he supported her career, and that he and their friends would be waiting for her when she finished.
“He gave me credit for what I had done,” she told moderator Tina Brown. “It was just mind-blowing for me.”
